warrior interviews: christoph rehage
The Longest Way 1.0 – one year walk/beard grow time lapse from Christoph Rehage on Vimeo.
i found this video a few months back, and instantly
fell in love with the whimsy earthy soul of it.
the story behind it intrigued me even more.
meet christoph rehage.

so how does one decide to walk from china to germany?
his original plan is here.
and the updated story is here.
christoph was kind enough to answer a few of
my own questions here….enjoy!
1) your video is beautiful-do you have a background in film?
I went to Beijing Film Academy from 2005 to 2007, did a course in cinematography there. apart from that, i really only like to take pictures as an excuse to go out and look at the world…
2) did any specific event or person inspire this journey for you?
a combination of factors. i had already a done a little walk in 2003, from paris to bad nenndorf. took about 4 weeks and pushed me to the limits. i guess i wanted that feeling back. besides that, i enjoy reading books where people talk about their own experiences. there are lots of brilliant books out there, each one an influence on its own.

3) what did your friends and family think once you shared your plan?
they hated it.
4) what surprised you the most about your walk?
what surprised me the most? well, i guess i have to say what really surprised me was the fact that i never did manage to smoothen the edges of my character during that walk.
5) what was the most challenging?
my ego.

6.) were you able to keep up with your loved ones?
of course i was. i had a cell phone, a computer, internet in every major and minor settlement along the way…
7.) what insight would you share with someone who was wanting to do something similar?
it’s definitely worth to do something if you really really want to do it. nevertheless, it is crucial to be 100% clear about the price that comes with it.
8.) have you noticed any significant changes in yourself since your return?
one thing i had lost, another thing i had given up. finding myself with nothing (not even a beard anymore), i realized that there was a message behind all this, a message for me to decipher.
9.) any future adventures planned?
not at this point.

10.) what is your favorite color?
haha, i am not sure actually. i used to like blue, but now… maybe it’s still blue.
11.) hey you are the first male i have ever featured on my female dominated blog.
thank you for having me on your lady site.
and thank you!

i have more questions! christoph are you out there?
- why did you want to smooth out your rough edges?
- how did love save you?
- what did you decipher in the message?
