there is still time to join the mermaid warriors gang. i will have to have a cut-off point at some time…but for now there are spaces open! the workshop starts on march 15, but you do not have to stress about “being ready” on that date. all members will be given a page and password, and the class will remain up for 3 months. you will also be able to download the videos and pdfs~so they are yours to keep! this way everyone can work at their own pace. this should be fun and inspiring!
i also wanted to elaborate that you do not need to have an art background to run one of these mermaid camps. (or classes) you just have to have an interest in art and helping young girls feel better about themselves. it is not about where you went to school or whether or not you can draw a stick person. the kids are not going to care about that. they only want someone to help give them a voice and a tool to express it with. i really honestly do believe that WE are onto something big….something that starts right here and it so very needed.
if any of you have any questions (try to make them as specific as you can) please email me at mccabe@dancingmermaid.com

P.S. I have a *moment* today that really highlighted one of the reason these art experiences are needed.
A coworker who is 54 years old was going to decorate a little window in her office with those gel clingy window things. These are shaped like bunnies, Easter eggs, etc.
I said: How should we arrange them?
And she froze up. She ‘You do it. I’m not creative at all.’
I said everybody could be creative, but she said she could only copy things other people had created. I encouraged her to stick on some of the eggs and was (secretly) shocked to see how she struggled to do it. She was just so afraid of doing it “wrong” and kept criticizing how she was doing it and looking for my approval.
I couldn’t help but think about these art empowerment camps. Wow.
I just said: There are no rules.
We can put them wherever we want! etc.
But this woman needed an art empowerment camp 45 years ago. Definitely. It got me wondering if I could do an art camp for ‘kids’ in their 50s, too…
Had to share!
