some mermaid love for you*

what you guys never knew you always wanted-custom mermaid rocks are here! it was only a matter of time before my mermaids found their way to some magic rocks. i am trying to come up with some really fun gift items for my shop this season. i am going to be taking custom rock orders as well-you all have been asking and i finally figured out a system to get them to you a bit quicker. (hey painting rocks is harder than it looks, i swear)
*
speaking of mermaids, i was walking ellie a few weeks ago and was approached by two good-looking young mormon men. (so cute, i think they were 19-is that bad?) anyway, poor dudes did not know what they were getting themselves into by asking about my faith. after explaining that i was not religious and accidentally laughing when asked if i went to church-the blonder, quieter boy asked me what i believe in.
*
“oh, i am a mermaid. i believe in the sea.”
*
the more aggressive boy opened his mouth to say something, and then stopped himself short once he digested what i said.
*
the three of us sat there staring at each other for a solid 5 seconds before i mumbled something about the weather and then ran down the street with a confused ellie.
*
do you guys have these moments or is it just me?

i believe in Jesus and i am not religious…i swear it is not a contradiction. i love rocks. i love spreading the message of love and peace and “sea beauty” everywhere. those mormon boys, bless their hearts, that’s all. not sure what else to say about that.
sometimes there just ain’t enough rocks. thankfully that is NOT the case in this space.
love to you mermie and ellie and gracie and diva etc etc etc love to all of you!

Aaaaah, just recently discovered your beautiful corner of the sea, Dancing Mermaid, and already I’m enchanted!
I think that was deeper than you thought, saying you’re a mermaid, believing in the sea, LOL! Just the same as a God-child, believing in God. I swim in Him, breathe in Him, live in Him … How else can we but believe in that which enfolds us? You’ve given me something to think about. Perhaps I’m an angel-faerie-mermaid too! Lovelovelove your beautiful and inspiring rocks!

I’ve seen those boys in your neck of the woods a lot lately. I had the older Jehovah’s at my house a few weeks ago. They said they were here to share and offer me some joy in my life. I kindly let them know that my life was already so full of joy and happiness, I couldn’t possibly accept. “look at me, it’s 12 noon and I’m working (painting) in my pajamas with my dogs napping at my feet.” Life doesn’t get much better than that.

They come to my door sometimes. We have 3.5 acres of land and we’re in the middle of it. Our driveway is long and rocky and UP-HILL (pretty steep in some parts). Before they even get really started I usually just say, “Thank you, but I’m not interested.” I wouldn’t say more than that because I’m not interested in a debate. They have the right to believe whatever they want and so do I. I don’t appreciate them coming to my door to ‘convert’ me – but they are just following their religion – spreading the word is part of it, so I can respect that.
Perhaps next time I will tell them I’m a faerie and I believe in the woods.

Oooh, you are quick on your feet. I need to think up something as good as this, since I’m asked all the time about going to church.

It’s definitely not just you. I just had a similar moment: http://boffopanda.blogspot.com/2008/09/church-of-painted-rocks.html and I partially “blame” you.

Last time I was asked that I said ”everything and nothing really”
)
Then I went to a lovely benedictine Monastry for a few days where they just let me be. And it was beautiful and god was definitely not religious when I was there

ooohhhh your mermaid rock is soooooooo beautifully enchanting!!! so cute, i love it!!!
hee hee, your story has put a smile on my face! awkward yes, but in such a endearing way. i can’t say that this type of situation has ever happened to me… where i live in canada there aren’t many mormon folk… but i think i would have an awkward response as well… i wouldn’t know what to say really… thanks for sharing and have a beautiful week!!!

ALL THE TIME. and you know, the cool thing is when you come across someone with a real heart. you accept them for who they are and they accept you.
i often find cute mormon missionaries on my door step. they call me, “the nice baptist lady…”
loved your response. i will try that next time.
