decorate your world*

hi there.
i’m back,
and sooner than i expected.
i got a new computer
which makes me very happy.
there is so much i want to tell you.
i want to tell you about the guy
who used to live in our courtyard
and the conversation we had about
spreading good messages to the world.

i want to tell you about the grief process
of losing all my photos and then the
gentle light that trickled in and helped
me let go.
i want to tell you how lonely i felt offline
and how it made me question where i fit
in this big wide world and if i even fit in at all.
or want to.
i want to tell you about her round, sweet face
and how she would cup her hands to tell me
a secret each day in my ear.
i want to tell you how hard it is to see
someone you love hurt
and how helpless and depressing that
can feel inside.
but i am going to start by telling
you about the rocks,
and how the children know.

i had not planned to paint rocks
everyday during camp this week.
i had other plans.
but so did they.

the rocks are always a big hit
when the kids come over to do art.
they are all over the front steps
in bright bold colors.
can we do rocks
they asked.
i told them about how the rocks
tumble in the sea for years to be
smooth and sleek.
i told them about the secrets
they hold-
secrets of mermaids and magic.
i told them about the hope revolution
and how much power they had to love
the world.

it did not take much.
they were in.

i was a little surprised at how unattached
they were to their creations.
how easily they gave away their love.
or maybe it is not so surprising.
maybe this really is how we start off.

i photographed a few while they were working
but almost every last one was given away.
i was awfully tempted to keep a few favorites
for myself.

i did not tell them what to write.
i did not give them ideas.
this is all them.

we walked around the block
and spread them around.
some by the sea.
some by the coffee shop.
some on bike seats and in the
back of trucks.
some on the steps of the old church.
some in gardens.
some in trees.

the kids man,
they just know.
art is as magic as heaven.

you are always loved.

you are special in your own way.

put yourself in a good mood!

no matter what you’re loved.

relax and go play something will come.

be yourself. play.

nobody can be up or on all the time.
nobody has it all figured out-
no matter how spiritual or joyful they are.
we all have our stuff.
we all have crap and triggers and dark places
we go when things are scary.

but maybe we can bring ourselves back,
again and again.
bring ourselves back to us.
to what is true.
maybe it is as simple as a rock
and spreading a little love.

at least that is what i’d
like to think.

************
i have missed you all greatly!
please pop in and tell me
what is bringing you back….

so lovely. my sunny yellow ’shine’ rock lives near my keys on my bookshelf… i still pick it up and pop it in my pocket as i head out the doors some days. knowing its there helps keep me grounded.
By amy on 07.27.08 5:46 pm
Oh I am so glad that you are back!!! I have missed you dearly. I cannot wait till you have a retreat for big kids like me and we can play and have as much fun as your little mermaids are having.
What is bringing me back is some time alone in my mind. Walking with the sun shining one me, the smell of salt in the air, and my family making me smile laugh and fee loved.
And you my dear have brought me back by coming back. thank you!!

this post was so fantastic! the innocence and the minds of children are amazing things, aren’t they? i work as a nanny and it keeps me in focus when the going gets rough. the kids seem to sense when things are tough and just envelope me in their giggles and hearts and joy. and it keeps me going. they could teach us all a thing or three!
By shel on 07.27.08 9:49 pm

YOU! are what keeps me coming back and I am especially fond of rocks, too. there is inspiration and authenticity inside and spilled over here and these are a few of my favorite things and like the sea, i am drawn to its beauty
By di on 07.28.08 5:21 am
So glad you’re back, you were greatly missed. I love the rocks. Ella and I finally painted rocks for the first time this weekend! She loved it. I will take some photos and send them your way. I did have trouble having some of the paint stick though? I used acrylic (thick, like you said)but it just didn’t stick too well. Except for the beautiful turquoise blue, that one worked exceptionally well! Again, so very glad you’re back!

Welcome back!!
There are days that I yearn to be unplugged from the internet because there are so many things I should be doing but instead I am surfing the web.
But there are also days that I only feel connected to the world when I am plugged in.
Love love love the rocks… they are incredibly powerful. I am carrying around my love rock at present, to remind me whenever I think I might forget or have gotten it wrong.
The kids’ rocks are wonderful and I am not surprised by any of it… just miss the classroom and my kids and their wonderful world and how they let used to let me in to play, too.

YIPEEEEEeeeee! You’re back! I haven’t commented very much on your blog, eventhough I’ve been reading your posts for some time now and love every last word. Then when you were gone I realized how much I appreciated your thoughts and creativity, not having them of course made me reflect. So I will comment more and share more (ie opening myself up, my challenge sometimes in this life). Having these little realizations always brings me back to myself. I love it! Thanks so much!!! Glade you’re back.

I’m known as a fairly particular person so I definitely come back to see how a free spirit soars. I always feel calmer and more open after I visit. I also appreciate the honesty and love that greets me every time.
It’s really great to have you back.

Why did I come back? Because you had the kids paint meaningful phrases on rocks and then deliver them to strangers. You taught them to put the magic back into the universe. You are helping them to help others believe. I love it.

Thank you for decorating our world in such an enchanting, magical, mermaid way! YOU have brought me back from the depths of drowning in a unimaginative dark place, where I never wanted to be, but somehow fell or got pushed into.
I’m back too…last week… I lovingly gathered rocks from my enchanted garden. painted words of love, inspiration & encouragement on them. found my long lost fairy dust and made them SPARKLE with magic! gave them to a friend…feels great…
Glad you are back; all the love you send out comes back to you a thousandfold!
By zehfyrus on 07.30.08 9:58 am
