Oh my Goodness!,

I just have to tell you that the last time I had a cat was right after our first son (Eli) was born. Our poor cat was getting the short end of the stick from everyone, including the dog. She would protect the baby from the cat. The poor kitty would walk around the perimeter of the room so as not to get a growling or worse from our dog.

He then determined he would get back in our good graces by bringing gifts. One day, I looked out the window of our back door and I could just barely see that he had an animal. So I told him there was no way he was coming in (after screaming). Then I went to the living room. I looked over and he was up on the window sill with a rat in his mouth. Showing me, wondering would I please just let him in. Then he came to the front door. I called Josh (my partner) yelling about how I was trapped in the house because the cat was coming to all the entrances with a dead rat.

Soon after that he caught a crow and squirrels. Here is the kicker. He had no front claws (from a previous owner). I was afraid to leave our house for fear of what was on the doorstep.

Eek.

Love,
Jen

What a fun post! I really enjoyed reading it. I was punctuating each paragraph with a smile :~)
We don't have a pet where we are now, but I can tell you about my family's dog back home. Henry, the English Springer Spaniel (a photo can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/emsmith/140446842/ ),
is 8 years old this month. He is one crazy dog, but he is always happy and a complete joy to be with. He refuses to play fetch, but loves to play football. He brings you a ball (the bigger the better) and you kick it toward him, he stops it with his front paws, and kicks it back to you. He can play this until you are completely exhausted! When walking Henry, you cannot have him on a leash. If you try to put him on one, he will just pull and pull. Let him walk without, and he skips everywhere, and comes back when you call for him. He also loves birds. My parents invite birds into their garden, with baths and feed etc, but everytime they come too near to Henry, he does a big loop of the garden, barking them away. Then he patters back to where he was sitting and looks up all proud at you, as if to say "I got rid of them for you, aren't I good!". He is also great to sit with. During our last visit over Christmas, he would come sit on my feet and just keep me company.
Enjoy your day with Delilah!

I'm not a cat person but I LOVE your Delilah pics, stories & the love you & J have for her. She has quite the personality and that rocks! She is adorable, independent, sassy & bossy ~ how fun. :-) One of my daughter's dogs has this "bowl" deal going on. Her bowls have to be just so with food & water or she will patrol until you fix it. Please keep sharing these wonderful stories & pics!

your descriptions are hysterical. i do not have a cat, but rather a dog -- boss.

i always thought i was a dog person, but until you actually live with an animal, you do not understand. they have such great personalities.

boss is not a barker, but lets you know when his water or food dish is empty. he waits patiently for you to notice, if you do not notice within a reasonable amount of time, he gets your attention by knocking his bowls around. lol

i love the image of your cat sleeping in the blue pot!

My giggle turned into proper laughter reading this! I LOVED this! I think Delilah and both of you rock - what a wonderful quirky relationship to have with a cat! I love that she is so demanding and that you still are both in love with her - it's a good sign - you both must have so much patience and love - wonderful!

P.S. When I was a kid my cat once brought a mouse in while I was eating SPAGHETTI (UGH UGH UGH) and ate it (crunch, crunch) behind my chair. I apparently stood up on my chair, stuck my fingers in my ears and sang at the top of my lungs until my Dad picked her and the mouse up and put them outside! A week later she somehow smuggled another one into the house and brought it up to my bedroom to eat. My parents came running when they heard my screaming - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Cats rock.

Oh how awesome!
I can totally sympathize with the random animals in the house. We have a doggy door and we have seen many snakes and birds thus far this spring/summer. (Yep, it's already summer hot in Texas.) I have a post about Maggie's latest catch this past weekend (www.bloggingjacki.com).

I LOVE that you share Delilah's adventures, please keep them coming!

Delicious Delilah! :-)

Was just wondering...my brother has (i think 6 cats!!!!)...each with their own personality.

They started acting the same as Delilah (itching, restless and and and). After taking them to the vet, he said they were on heat... they took them all in (after their last litters...had 4 mama cats with 14 kittens... all at the same time!).

After they had been back to vet after their litters, the restlessness and itching and 'screaming/moaning' stopped instantly.

'Sneeutjie' (Afrikaans for Snowy) recently just moved out of the house - she prefers to cuddle with the dogs outside.

Just thought I'll tell you about it,maybe there is a good explanation for her moods..which is not just moodiness? :-)

2nd last photo with the flowers in the background is gorgeous! xx
