your daily delilah

delilah_yellows.jpg
would your wednesday be complete without a delilah update?
i didn’t think so.

lets get started.

important fact #1: she is no longer in the bed being all cuddly.

delilah_ball.jpg

this breaks my mermaid heart but it is all part of the
you-have-a-cat-now-let-go-process.

i know there are cats that are as loyal as dogs
who will cuddle with you every night,
and delilah is just not one of them.

she is a women of her own rules
and i support that part of her personality-
even though i really want.her.to.cuddle.every.day.

now she is back in the i am pissed at you stage.

delilah_spread_eagle.jpg

in other words,
it is time for more flea medicine, and until it kicks in
we are all in for some less than pleasant mood swings.

the_look.jpg

to make matters even worse,
we ran out of cat food last night and delilah was NOT HAPPY about this.

nevermind the fact that she got fresh tuna
and treat after treat-

delilah cannot relax unless her food bowl
is more than half full at all times. ALL TIMES.

an empty bowl is more than unacceptable.

so, neither justin or i slept because we were letting
her in and out all night-
(she is sleeping outside now in a blue flower pot)

and each time she came in she went straight for that empty bowl,
followed by this sound: “rarOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.”

rarOOOOOOOOOOOOO means:
i cannot believe you useless humans have still not replaced
the missing food in my bowl.
i gave you 5 whole minutes to get this together people.
and by the way, i have little fleas bugging the crap out of me.
DO SOMETHING.

oh, and why are we letting her in and out all night you wonder?

first off, we can’t just leave her out all night and listen to her meow.
when it comes to delilah, i am a wuss, justin is a wuss.

me_delilah_cuddling.jpg

we are obsessed with our cat.

j_d.jpg

secondly, she likes to bring us “presents.”
when i let her in at night, i open the door a tiny crack
to make sure her paws and mouth are empty.

lets just say there was incident that involved me screaming
while delilah tried to PUSH her head through the door with a LIVE mouse
squeaking for its life inside her mouth.

(justin came out of the room looking horrified because he thought i was
being attacked.)

i am telling you this because a kitty door was considered, but,
the chances of her bringing wild animals into the house is too high.

*edited to add: she caught a groundhog the other night.
after weeks of staring at a dirt hole in our backyard,
deilah finally caught him.
this does not make me proud or happy.
i was starting to get attached to that little dude.
she is a cold-blooded killer. a really cute cold blooded killer.

delilah_yellow_close-up.jpg

also, there is an even higher chance that delilah would refuse to use a kitty door.
that is just how this sister rolls.

(like she refused her litter box after one week. she politely let us know by pooping
next to the litter box. not that i mind that she goes outside. thank god she does.
this house is small.)

other important news:
delilah has a friend now. an almost friend.

this is ellie the dog:

ellie.jpg

ellie lives in the house behind us so delilah and ellie
share the courtyard.

this is the best shot i have of ellie
because she is scared of the camera.

she is SUCH a sweet, tender dog-
and very, very, shy and timid.
i am not even a dog person and i fell in love
with her on the spot.
she has the most gentle soul you will ever cross.

mostly ellie and delilah have stare-offs in the courtyard.

(with ellie standing behind me terrified while i try to coax delilah
to come over and make friends.)

there has been progress though-

i was not there,
but heard the other day while they were staring at each other,
delilah did her signature long, i-am-so-beautiful-stretch.

this is delilah’s custom move to let us know she is in
the mood to be cuddled.

her slutty stretch:

delilah_stretching.jpg

its a good sign, right?

ellie and delilah are soul sisters-
they both have trust issues
and they both have really cool owners.
my fantasy is that one day i will find
them snuggling by the shed surrounded by yellow wildflowers.
delilah_table.jpg

here is one last picture of delilah drinking from her
favorite spot.

delilah_drinking.jpg

i realize she looks rather ridiculous but this was the only way
i could get her to stop drinking out of the fishbowl.

every time she started sipping goldfish water (gross right??)
i would pick her up and put her on the this table with water.

the good news is the tactic worked.

the bad news is i now have to incorporate a bowl of water into
whatever centerpiece i use on our breakfast nook.

because i am a girl that likes to decorate.

god i love my cute cranky ball of fluff.
the end.

*********

ps as always-i love to see your animal pictures and stories too.

I am laughing so hard right now! She is such a funny girl. Why does she have such a funny personality? The images you capture are the best! She is such a crab but dang is she cute! I will never forget the first time I came to your cottage. I walked into the courtyard, glanced around for your house numbers, not finding them began to walk around to see which bungalow was yours. Delilah was laying on the front porch of your neighbor across from you so of course I naturally thought that was yours. Knock knock knock. No Answer and all the while Delilah just watching me from her spot in the sun. I walked back to the back house and finally the girl inside said “McCabe is in the front right house”……..ok I thought to myself. As I walked to your slice of heaven, Delilah was still cozy on the front porch of your neighbor. I said “Thanks a lot Delilah, like you couldnt take a moment of your day to help a girl out”……She in turn lifted her head, giving me a look like…..”Look lady, I just live here and its not my turn to watch McCabe”. LOL …..Love & Light ~Ang

You’ve got a beautiful cat there :o )
Thanks for the story!

your cat cracks me up. i love her slutty stretch. and i totally hear you about the snotty cat not cuddling thing. one of my furbabies is a total lovebucket and lays in my lap every chance he gets, and the other only pets *you* (by rubbing on you) when he’s in the mood. sometimes he rolls on his back to show his belly but when you pet him he runs away. cats are so crazy ;)
that’s why we love them, hey?
srsly, mermaid, i lurve your snooty little furball. xo

my latest keely pic is up on my blog :-)

I love your delia stories!

this post made me laugh SO HARD. i seriously love your delilah post. when i read the title — “your daily delilah” — i actually got excited that maybe you’re going to do a daily delilah series. i would be so down with that.

i continue to be amazed at the clear, cute shots you get of delilah. my cats always move at the last minute when my camera is taking a picture. IT BUGS ME! they are so cute, but i can’t seem to capture it well. i only got a few great shots of diva last week because she was sitting stone solid in a chair and half-asleep.

don’t you just love their beautiful pink padded feet?

diva’s not a cuddler, either, but she does follow me everywhere and want me to rub her head and back until my arm falls off. but only when she wants it. of course, this is love on her terms.

solomon is the same way about the food dish. i totally cracked up to learn that delilah is the same way.

you tell the best stories about your beautiful girl, and you take the best kitty pictures. more, more, more! :)

This is so funny! What a little drama queen you have there…The third and fourth pictures there are priceless! Such a lady!

Mood-swinging cold blooded killer or not, I think Delilah is delightful!

I think Delilah and Ellie may well become pals. My youngest cat, Bear, has made friends with my friend’s little terrier, Poppy. It’s so funny - Poppy takes her ball and drops it at Bear’s feet. She still hasn’t figured out that Bear can’t throw it for her. And when Poppy wants a snooze, she gives her ball to Bear to ‘guard’ it. Adorable.

Delicious Delilah! :-)

Was just wondering…my brother has (i think 6 cats!!!!)…each with their own personality.

They started acting the same as Delilah (itching, restless and and and). After taking them to the vet, he said they were on heat… they took them all in (after their last litters…had 4 mama cats with 14 kittens… all at the same time!).

After they had been back to vet after their litters, the restlessness and itching and ’screaming/moaning’ stopped instantly.

‘Sneeutjie’ (Afrikaans for Snowy) recently just moved out of the house - she prefers to cuddle with the dogs outside.

Just thought I’ll tell you about it,maybe there is a good explanation for her moods..which is not just moodiness? :-)

2nd last photo with the flowers in the background is gorgeous! xx

I love your love for Delilah. She is definitley the TRUE definition of a cat. Please keep telling us more her delightful Delilah stories!

Oh how awesome!
I can totally sympathize with the random animals in the house. We have a doggy door and we have seen many snakes and birds thus far this spring/summer. (Yep, it’s already summer hot in Texas.) I have a post about Maggie’s latest catch this past weekend (www.bloggingjacki.com).

I LOVE that you share Delilah’s adventures, please keep them coming!

My giggle turned into proper laughter reading this! I LOVED this! I think Delilah and both of you rock - what a wonderful quirky relationship to have with a cat! I love that she is so demanding and that you still are both in love with her - it’s a good sign - you both must have so much patience and love - wonderful!

P.S. When I was a kid my cat once brought a mouse in while I was eating SPAGHETTI (UGH UGH UGH) and ate it (crunch, crunch) behind my chair. I apparently stood up on my chair, stuck my fingers in my ears and sang at the top of my lungs until my Dad picked her and the mouse up and put them outside! A week later she somehow smuggled another one into the house and brought it up to my bedroom to eat. My parents came running when they heard my screaming - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Cats rock.

your descriptions are hysterical. i do not have a cat, but rather a dog — boss.

i always thought i was a dog person, but until you actually live with an animal, you do not understand. they have such great personalities.

boss is not a barker, but lets you know when his water or food dish is empty. he waits patiently for you to notice, if you do not notice within a reasonable amount of time, he gets your attention by knocking his bowls around. lol

i love the image of your cat sleeping in the blue pot!

I’m not a cat person but I LOVE your Delilah pics, stories & the love you & J have for her. She has quite the personality and that rocks! She is adorable, independent, sassy & bossy ~ how fun. :-) One of my daughter’s dogs has this “bowl” deal going on. Her bowls have to be just so with food & water or she will patrol until you fix it. Please keep sharing these wonderful stories & pics!

What a fun post! I really enjoyed reading it. I was punctuating each paragraph with a smile :~)
We don’t have a pet where we are now, but I can tell you about my family’s dog back home. Henry, the English Springer Spaniel (a photo can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/emsmith/140446842/ ),
is 8 years old this month. He is one crazy dog, but he is always happy and a complete joy to be with. He refuses to play fetch, but loves to play football. He brings you a ball (the bigger the better) and you kick it toward him, he stops it with his front paws, and kicks it back to you. He can play this until you are completely exhausted! When walking Henry, you cannot have him on a leash. If you try to put him on one, he will just pull and pull. Let him walk without, and he skips everywhere, and comes back when you call for him. He also loves birds. My parents invite birds into their garden, with baths and feed etc, but everytime they come too near to Henry, he does a big loop of the garden, barking them away. Then he patters back to where he was sitting and looks up all proud at you, as if to say “I got rid of them for you, aren’t I good!”. He is also great to sit with. During our last visit over Christmas, he would come sit on my feet and just keep me company.
Enjoy your day with Delilah!

Oh my Goodness!,

I just have to tell you that the last time I had a cat was right after our first son (Eli) was born. Our poor cat was getting the short end of the stick from everyone, including the dog. She would protect the baby from the cat. The poor kitty would walk around the perimeter of the room so as not to get a growling or worse from our dog.

He then determined he would get back in our good graces by bringing gifts. One day, I looked out the window of our back door and I could just barely see that he had an animal. So I told him there was no way he was coming in (after screaming). Then I went to the living room. I looked over and he was up on the window sill with a rat in his mouth. Showing me, wondering would I please just let him in. Then he came to the front door. I called Josh (my partner) yelling about how I was trapped in the house because the cat was coming to all the entrances with a dead rat.

Soon after that he caught a crow and squirrels. Here is the kicker. He had no front claws (from a previous owner). I was afraid to leave our house for fear of what was on the doorstep.

Eek.

Love,
Jen

Oh your cat is a sweetheart! Ill have to post some thing about my Chien Po!
