today i am a girl
who is stoked with a trip to the art store
and a new orange and pink sundress for 14.99.

today i am a girl
who makes art
on a red stool and pigtails.

today i am girl
who sometimes disappoints
and is learning that it
to does not make me a bad person.
*
today i am a girl
who makes friends easily
and feels at ease with strangers.
*
today i am a girl
wearing no pants
because it is SO DAMN HOT.
(and forgot to get summer threads out of storage)
*
today i am girl
who does not feel 34 years old
and does not own a single suit,
or anything tailored for that matter.
*
i am a girl who still shops in
the junior section,
and dressing up means
brushed hair and glitter for eyeshadow.

today i am a girl with the heart of an optimist
and the soul of a fire belly dancer,
who even on the best of days
still sometimes struggles to see the light.

today i am a girl
who is overflowing
with love, ideas, and compassion-
which occasionally get me into trouble.

today i am girl who has
consumed 3 fudgsicles
because did i mention it was hot?

today i am girl
who finally gets what it means
to love and honor yourself.

today i am a girl
who will never say a cross word
to a waiter or waitress even if
my food comes out frozen.
*
today i am a girl
who wishes her best buds
lived a lot closer for play dates.
*
today i am a girl
who has a fragile ego
but is also strong and solid.
*
today i am a girl
who will stop everything if
delilah wants to cuddle.

today i am a girl who is
not afraid to begin again
or admit defeat.

today i am a girl
that believes in miracles.
*
today i am a girl
who is willing to start
where i am.

I am a girl who opened her heart,
I am a girl who allowed love~
I am an open book ~
I lived in fear….
but have now blossomed into a believer~
my truth,
my wisdom,
my love for life,
the air i breathe,
sunsets,
the smell of beach sand,
my shoes and socks off after a long run,
the twinkle in my daughters eyes,
my nieces smiles and laughter,
the ceiling fan blowing as I lay in my bikini on the couch,
the sun shining on my face as i swim in the ocean,
these are things that give me hope, faith and love~
i know that becuase i am who i am and where i am in my life that sadness is only as long as i allow it~
for now i will feel it~
soon it will drift back out to sea and i will feel pink light again!
